Power your narrative with verbs

Instead of saying “The detention officer was uncompromising and refused the victim’s request for food, blanket and hot water,”

Say, “The detention officer would strike the victim and shove his head against the cell bars, whenever the victim requested for food, blanket and hot water.”

Instead of saying “He insulted her,”

Quote him, “He said ‘you are retarded and hopeless’".
